Chipstead arrive at Imber Court this afternoon for a clash between fifth and sixth in League 2. Chipstead just hold the upper hand thanks to an additional try bonus point, both teams having won four of their six games to date. In spite of the extra bonus point, the Met have scored 32 points more than their visitors, whilst conceding just 8 points more.
Chipstead finished fourth in Surrey Two last season, on the same points as Old Caterhamians, but some distance behind the promoted sides. Last weekend, Chipstead defeated Old Wimbledonians by a 3 point margin. Wimbledon had defeated Old Cats the week before who vanquished the Met last week. Chipstead should have played Cats in September but conceded an "away walkover". Chipstead have notched up 14 tries in the five games they have actually played, while kicking just 13 points - 5 conversions and 1 penalty. Ryan Dupe is the leading scorer, with three tries and a conversion, but is not in today's match squad.
Today's protagonists have met only twice previously, and Chipstead have won convincingly both times, scoring over 100 points. They come into today's game with selection issues at hooker and in the second row.
The Met make several changes following two tough games in the last week including the defeat in the PSUK Cup match against South wales Police. Skipper Cormac Healy is missing owing to work commitments. Sam Bailey is suspended. Dean Barnard makes his debut at tight head, Angus Munns returns in the second row while Will Allen, Richard Borries and Huw Longden form a new-look back row. Ethan Sutton Davies makes another appearance on the left wing and Matt Atherton returns at full-back.
The teams immediately behind Chipstead and Met in the league both face tough fixtures today against the pace-setters; Purley and Old Amplefordians, currently joint third on 20 points should record victories against the bottom two sides. A win for the Met today is vital if they are to stay in touch with the promotion battle.
